Carb Free Trick or Treat Giveaways - This kid has some good ideas.

We live in a neighborhood that attracts hundreds of families from all over the area for the annual Trick-or-Treat ritual.  We live in a great neighborhood and everyone else seems to agree.  As we think that a sugar-free existence is also a moral choice, we do not want to contribute to the poisoning of the next generation, so we wanted to find some alternatives to handing out candy.  This kid (family) has some great ideas.

Shauna and I will do a shopping of our own and see what we can find for candy alternatives.

Until later, KetoMojoGogo - out.

Keto on Vacation

Just posted related video.  Enjoy.

Just like with any health-minded lifestyle choice, traveling can present challenges and temptations that can derail your progress.

First of all, you are not at home, with all of your prepared ingredients to make your special Keto meals.  Finding enough fat on restaurant menus can also be challenging (since the "health" community has thoroughly demonized fat consumption for decades). Finally, you are on vacation, so you feel that it is right to "reward" yourself occasionally.

Recently, Shauna and I took a 3-day mini-vacation at an Orlando resort.

Day 1:

We spent the first day exploring Bok Tower Gardens.  September in Florida still gets pretty warm during the day, so we arrived around 8:30 AM so we could explore before the hottest part of the day.

Breakfast:

We would normally have Keto coffee in the morning but did not on this day since we left so early.  The Cafe at the Gardens opened at 9 AM.  They had half-and-half, real butter and even Stevia that we were able to add to our coffee which gave us most of the components of our Keto Coffee addiction.  We also enjoyed their Bok Breakfast bowl (without the home fries).  This included 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, shredded cheese with roasted peppers and onions.  A great Keto morning.

The Gardens themselves include miles of perfectly manicured walking trails and thousands of acres of various types of gardens that cannot be adequately captured in a few camera shots.  But here are a few:

  Pinewood Estates Garden

 Manhole cover size Lilly Pads

Indigo Snake

Lunch:

After five hours of hiking and about 1200 calories burned we hit the gift shop and headed for our resort.  On the way, we needed gas, so we took the opportunity to grab some Keto friendly snacks (equating to our lunch).

Dinner:

After we checked into our room, we rested for a couple of hours, then went out to a nice dinner at Black Angus.  As always, we ordered water with lemon as our drink (adding 1/2 packet of our Truvia).  We each had a side Caesar's salad (sans croutons).  For our entree, we decided to split a 12-ounce Ribeye steak, with a side of Steamed Broccoli and (for a special treat) a sweet potato between us.  The waiter did look at me weird when I asked for a new sweet potato without the sweet butter and please bring extra real butter.  We slathered that butter all over our broccoli and even on the steak.  So, day 1 complete, well within our Keto Goals.

Day 2:

The plan the next day was to hang out at the resort, swim and hike around the resort wetlands and boardwalks.

1. All days begin with coffee

One thing that Shauna and I love is our morning coffee.  As it turns out, Keto coffee is a great way to get started on your fat macros.  I try to keep my daily fat intake at about 75% of my total calories.

Keto Coffee with Coconut Oil

Keto Coffee with MCT Oil
Technically, our Keto Coffee is our Breakfast.  The fats make you full and help to keep you satisfied until a midday meal.  After dinner the previous night, we did a quick shopping to prepare for our resort meals.

Shopping Haul

  • Eggs
  • Coffee
  • Ham steak
  • Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • Half and half
  • Truvia
  • Fresh Asparagus
  • Coconut oil
  • Minced Garlic
  • Butter (of course)
  • Pico de gallo
  • Portobello Mushrooms
  • Hot wings (not breaded, 0 carbs)
  • Blueberry flavored cream cheese spread (2.5 carbs per tablespoon)

This allowed us to make 2 fantastic meals.

Lunch:

Scrambled eggs with ham, cheese and pico de gallo
Portobello Mushrooms sauteed in butter

Dinner:

Baked hot wings
Asparagus in garlic
Cheese

Evening Snack:

1 tablespoon blueberry flavored cream cheese spread

We had a full day of hiking, swimming and playing in a poker tournament (Shauna took 1st place), plus plenty of cuddle time.

Day 3: Seaworld Orlando

Breakfast:

We had a 10 AM checkout, so we had our Keto Coffee and headed out.

We stopped by Bob Evans to grab breakfast, to minimize how much we spent at SeaWorld.

We each had a Denver Omelet (no potatoes) and split an order of bacon and sausage.

Lunch:

After we went to 2 shows: Shamu, then the Dolphin Show, we shared an order of pork fajitas (minus the tortilla).  Along with a side of Guacamole provides a great source of fat and protein.

Avoiding Temptation:

We saw people walking around with these all day.  Remember, the normal September Orlando temperature is about 94F.

Would we give in and eat this delicious, high carb treat and potentially sabotage or ketogenic state?

We really needed a substitution.  So, I went and asked the Ice Cream store if they served a sugar free ice cream.  Evidently, this was a rare question, because they didn't even know the price.  But we did score.  While it doesn't appear to be as appetizing as the carby version.  We were very happy and satisfied.  This proves that even under the most tempting situations, there are always alternatives.  I would call this a huge moral victory.

SeaWorld Highlights:

Heading Home/Dinner:

Around 5 PM, we were drained by the 92 F + heat and headed toward our car.  As soon as we got in the car a major thunderstorm began and followed us all the way home.  A 1-hour drive became a 2 1/2 hour drive.  So, being theme park and heat-weary, making dinner seemed unlikely.  So, we used one more Keto Road Trip trick.

Burger King Bunless Whopper

We stopped for Bunless Whoppers with cheese and bacon ending our Keto while on Vacation Adventure.

This was the first vacation ever that we have taken where we not only did not gain weight, we actually lost 2 pounds each at the conclusion.  So take heart, it is possible to make smart eating decisions when you are away from home and that is mentally rewarding.

Until next time ...

Intro to KetoMojoGogo

Shauna and I are very excited to kick off our brand new blog and YouTube channel.  We are looking forward to sharing our journey to better health and weight loss.  Here is the link to our first video.  I believe that we are fairly unique in the Keto Informational genre in that we are actually very early in our weight loss process, so people will be able to see us transform over the next view months and provide encouragement as we also encourage others.

It may seem odd for people who are still fat to be providing dietary advice.  That is a valid response.  However, we do not claim to be nutritional experts.  We have found something that is working for us and has worked for many others.  To counter that argument, a person that has never been overweight may also not be trusted to give weight loss advice as they have not had to experience the challenge of a poorly performing metabolic system.

The Keto community is quickly growing.  There is a lot of good information on blogs and YouTube, but there is also a good amount of misinformation, especially by people that should know better.  I hope that we can provide some simplicity and clarity for those that are seeking to improve their health and lose the weight that they so desperately need to lose.

We are doing this for ourselves.  We need accountability to be successful.  We are doing this for our family.  Our family has done their best to follow the traditional medical standards to remain healthy, but are getting fatter, like most of America.  Finally, we are doing this for other people that are looking for a partner ... a buddy to connect with.  We can help each other through this journey.

We want to help you go get your mojo.  So, check back often and subscribe to our YouTube Channel.
